Welcome!

DISCLAIMER: This is a chronicle of locations, events, and moments associated with my sabbatical year. It is not a record of my intellectual journey or academic work accomplished. For those who wonder, that work is always going on – but a blog about background research, interviews, and data analysis would not be terribly inspiring. Instead you’ll find photos and brief comments – sometimes about people, often about scenery, occasionally about things that just make me happy. Ideally, I’ll post every day. Realistically, I’ll fail miserably at keeping that promise (in fact, I’m beginning this project three weeks late – not a good indicator).  I’ll try to be consistent. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!

NOTE: This is a private blog – you are here by invitation along with a small group of family and close friends. Please be aware of the mixed audience if you post a comment (which is not at all expected). Please let me know if someone else would like to be invited.

And what inspires this crazy odyssey?

“I am in love with this world . . . I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings.” — John Burroughs
