Moving on from New Hampshire soon. It’s got gorgeous scenery and quite a few quirks: (1) The Old Man of the Mountain silhouette is revered on license plates and highway signs – even though the actual rock face collapsed in 2003. (2) There is no seat belt law for adults. Yikes. Makes you think about the state motto: “Live Free or Die.” (3) Instead of vineyards, there are dozens of apple orchards with cider tasting rooms, markets, and lots of pumpkin-themed decor. (4) And Dixville Notch is known for early voting in presidential primary elections. Just after midnight, all the residents (usually about 10) gather in a hotel ballroom to cast their votes!
